The Next Right Decision
Ever had one of those days where life feels like it’s just too much?
The emails are stacking up, your phone won’t stop buzzing, and that one big decision you’ve been avoiding is now sitting front and center. Whether you’re leading a team, running a business, raising a family—or all three at once—overwhelm can sneak in fast and hit hard.
In those moments, I’ve learned to come back to one powerful question:
What’s the next right decision?
Not the easiest decision. Not the most comfortable or fun decision. And certainly not the one that gives you instant gratification. I’m talking about the right decision—the one that aligns with your values, supports your long-term vision, and builds meaningful momentum.
Because here’s the truth: life isn’t made up of one big leap. It’s built on hundreds of small, quiet choices. The kind you make when no one’s watching. The kind that require courage, not comfort.
We live in a culture that rewards quick wins and big reveals. But real leadership—and real success—is about consistency. It’s about showing up even when you’d rather shut down. It’s about choosing progress over perfection, growth over ease, and purpose over pressure.
That one next right step? It matters more than you think.
I’ve watched it over and over again with my coaching clients. They’ll tell me they feel stuck, or confused, or lost in the noise. But when we pause and ask, “What’s the next right decision?”, the fog starts to clear. Maybe it's making the phone call you’ve been putting off. Maybe it’s shutting your laptop and taking a real lunch break. Maybe it’s finally saying “no” to what’s not serving you, so you can say “yes” to what will.
One right choice turns into another. And then another. That’s how momentum builds. Not overnight—but over time. Just like compound interest in a savings account, small, consistent decisions pay big dividends.
And here's the bonus: each right decision builds trust—not just with your clients, your team, or your family, but with yourself. Every time you choose what’s right over what’s easy, you strengthen your inner leader. You build resilience. You deepen integrity. You stop reacting, and start responding.
If you’re still unsure, here’s a simple check-in I love to use:
“Will this decision move me closer to who I want to be?”
If the answer is yes—even just by a little—take the step. Make the move. Trust your gut.
Because progress doesn’t always come with fireworks. Sometimes, it comes with a quiet, confident decision made in the middle of the mess. Sometimes, the breakthrough happens when no one else notices—but you do.
So today, if you’re feeling stuck or stretched thin, don’t try to solve everything. Just ask:
What’s my next right decision?
And then go make it.
I’m cheering for you.
