Where You Look Is Where You’ll Go

Momentum doesn't materialize like a visitor to the Star Trek Enterprise. It's not something you stumble upon because you bought a new planner or had one great Monday. Momentum is created. It's built, choice by choice, based on where you place your focus—and how consistently you keep it there.

It's easy to get caught staring at the problem. We all do it. The deadline, the debt, the messy relationship, the "what ifs." But the more energy we give to what's not working, the more stuck we feel. Why? Because what we focus on expands.

This isn't theory—it's practice. If you wake up each day looking for what's hard, you'll find it. If you fixate on everything going wrong, your day will follow that script. Know anyone who says, "I am such a clutz!" then continues to trip everywhere?  On the flip side, if you wake up and ask, "What's the next right thing I can do today?"—you shift. You move. You create motion, and that's how momentum starts.

Start With the Next Right Thing

You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to take the next step. Think of it like driving. If your eyes drift toward the ditch, your car starts to veer off course. But if you keep your eyes on the lane, your hands follow. Where you look is where you'll go.

The same is true in business, leadership, health, and relationships. If you focus on growth, you'll make decisions that support it. If you focus on lack, you'll shrink. If you focus on progress, you'll start building it—one intentional action at a time.

This isn't about ignoring reality or pretending everything's perfect. It's about choosing what deserves your energy. You can acknowledge the struggle without letting it be the whole story. You can honor the truth and direct your focus toward the solution.

Energy Follows Focus

Every successful client I've coached has had to learn this skill.  I still need to be reminded from time to time, too!  The top salespeople, the most effective leaders—they don't have fewer problems. They just don't waste time feeding them. They focus forward.

So, if you're feeling stuck, ask yourself: Where's my focus right now? Is it on fear, comparison, or everything I can't control? Or is it on the next action I can take?

You don't need a miracle. You need momentum. And momentum is just movement in the same direction—repeated. That starts with your focus.

Decide where you're going. Then, every day, put your attention there. That's how goals get met. That's how dreams become reality.
